How Many Bibles Do I Own?

Hi.  My name is Bret, and I am a Bible addict.

(Hi, Bret!)

Last week Erin and I went to a thrift store in Delaware and as is inevitable we gravitated toward the used book section.  I saw a few Bibles there, none I was interested in, but I did snag myself a Catholic hymnal and a Book of Common Worship from the Brethren Church.  I collect hymnals.

There was a woman there who said to me that I got all the Bibles before her.  I said no, these are hymnals, that I collect them.  She said, “Oh, I collect Bibles.”  I thought to myself, I have a lot of Bibles, but I don’t really collect them, do I?  Is that a collection in the traditional sense, like stamps or coins or comic books?  (I collect comic books too, but I’m not rabid about it).

We also went to another used bookstore in Delaware called 2nd & Charles and if you’ve never been there, I highly recommend it.  I did gravitate toward the Bible section but mostly they had King James Versions which, as you will see in the list below, I have plenty of.

At last count I own 39 Bibles.  I’m not a collector; I just have a lot of them.  I read or refer to them all regularly.  They are all within reach of me right now on bookshelves in my office at the Parsonage.  Different versions, different study Bibles, some in Greek, one in Spanish.  My go-to version is the ESV but currently I’m reading the Legacy Standard Bible (or Legit Standard Bible, as my wife calls it).  So, as I am telling on my addiction, here is a complete list of all the Bibles I own.  This week.
